June Ann Stoveld passed away on December 27, 2023 after a brief illness and hospitalization. She always said she’d leave her house at 172 Briar Hill Avenue in Toronto “feet first” and so she did in her 96th year.
June was born on June 2, 1928 to Bridget (McGrath) and Patrick White in Toronto. She lived with her siblings Dorothy, Harold and Alice on Sherbourne St. After graduating from high school, she worked in a shoe store, a yarn mill and then Power/Loblaws until her retirement after 30+ years there.
In 1948, June met Ernie (Wilfred Ernest) Stoveld. They both worked at the Orange Hall square dances; she as a cashier and he as a doorman. They dosey doed into marriage on January 21, 1950 and 3 years later had their only child, Harold.
June was known for her cheery hellos, witty expressions, and many crocheted afghans. She was a euchre shark, reader and puzzle maker, and enjoyed a beer or two, when she gave herself the time. She was a warm-hearted caregiver as a young girl to her family, and selflessly and generously gave of herself throughout her life.
June was predeceased by her siblings and husband. She is survived by her son Harold and his wife Lauren, granddaughter Natalie and her husband Lee, and grandson Craig and his wife Diana. She also leaves her three great grandchildren, Jack, William and Nathan. She will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home North York Chapel (6191 Yonge St. south of Steeles Ave.) on Saturday January 27, 2024 from 1:00 pm until the time of the Celebration of Life which will begin at 2:00pm.
