Rev. James O'Reilly Enright C.S.B.

Died peacefully in his sleep Monday, December 20th at Anglin House, Toronto, ON. James Enright was born in Detroit, MI October 14, 1924, the oldest of four boys of James Enright Sr., and Mildred Clear. The family moved to Toronto where he completed his primary school at Holy Rosary School and secondary school at St. Michael's College School, Toronto. He entered St. Basil's Novitiate in 1942. Two weeks after making his first profession of vows as a Basilian, he attended Assumption College in Windsor. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1948, he was appointed to Catholic Central High School, Detroit. After his Detroit experience, Father Enright went to St. Thomas High School. He returned to Toronto to begin his theological studies. He was ordained to the priesthood June 29, 1951, and then spent the next years teaching at Catholic Central High School (Detroit, MI), St. Michael's College School (Toronto). It is also at this time that he founded the High School Hockey League, which continues to this day.

During the summers he attended the University of Detroit and obtained an MA degree in English. Father Enright returned to St. Michael's College School in 1981 and taught there for the next 17 years. Father Enright moved to Anglin House in 2006 where he continued to inspire the staff and the retired Fathers with his good humour and priestly qualities.

He is predeceased by his parents and brothers William, Robert, and Thomas. The Basilian Fathers offer their condolences and prayers to his nieces and nephews. There will be a Vigil Service on Wednesday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m., with visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre, 95 St. Joseph St. Toronto. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the same chapel on Thursday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Basilian Fathers Retirement Fund, 95 St. Joseph St., Toronto, ON, M5S 2R9.
