Died peacefully on February 22, 2011 in Toronto at Sunnybrook Hospital Veterans Centre (Kilgour Wing). Beloved husband of Martha Spiers (nee Hewitt) for 57 wonderful years, and loving father of Donald (Raghda), Neil (Janet), Barbara (Kevin), and Duncan (Genevieve). Dear grand dad to Andrew and Stewart, Jack and Alex, Reed and Maxime.
Jack was born on May 25, 1925 and raised in Maxville, Ontario. He served as a Navigator with the RCAF in WWII. After graduating from McGill University in the early 1950’s he moved to Toronto to embark on a successful career in industrial trade show management, working over the years with companies such as MacLean Hunter, Wadham Publishing and Southex. In his later years, he continued to work as an industry consultant, and also as a field volunteer with Canadian Executive Services Overseas (CESO) sharing his knowledge and skills with small business owners in developing companies in Central America and Russia.
Jack will always be remembered as a proud family man, great friend, faithful Presbyterian, and terrific musician. At any occasion large or small, Jack played the piano with great aplomb leading everyone in song! Fond memories of family ski trips, his enthusiasm for all things music or sports related undertaken by his children and grandkids, and a perfect cribbage hand at the Kennisis Lake cottage, are among the many things that contributed to his long and happy life.
