It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Eddie “Scooter” Caterer in his 71st year on Thursday, January 30th, 2014. Beloved and irreplaceable husband of Amber Caterer Walsh, treasured son of Margaret Caterer Pitchford. Dear brother of Joan Grant Erwin, Shirley Duncan and Marion Snow. Ed will be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law Mary Walsh, sister-in-law Hazel Rickett; brothers-in-law Garry Walsh and Bill Snow, and his many nieces and nephews. Eddie was a very accomplished athlete and was honoured as Malvern Collegiate’s “Athlete of the Year” in 1962. Following his graduation from Malvern Collegiate, he was awarded an athletic scholarship at Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan where he excelled in football and hockey. He is a longtime member of the Balmy Beach Club where he played hockey and rugby for many years. He served his fellow members of the Balmy Beach Club as a sports director and coach of rugby as well as international old boys hockey tournaments in Europe. Scooter was renowened for his 30 year term as Grand Marshall of the Balmy Beach Old Boys International Golf Tournaments in Grand Island, New York.
Friends and family will be received at the Giffen-Mack Danforth Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 2570 Danforth Ave. (at Main Subway Stn) 416-698-3121, on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 2 – 4 P.M. and 6 – 9 P.M. A funeral service will be held at eleven a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church, 72 Main St. (at Benlamond Ave.) Cremation to follow. Following the funeral service, a reception will be held at the Balmy Beach Club from 1 – 4 P.M. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Princess Margaret Hospital in Ed’s name would be greatly appreciated by the family.
