Doreen L. Scrofano

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Scrofano (nee Neglia) suddenly on July 29, 2022, at her home in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her husband, Giuseppe (Joe) Scrofano; Doreen will be dearly missed by her daughter, Marie Scrofano (Gabriel Sanchez) and son, Franc Scrofano. Doreen will be fondly remembered and missed by her grandchildren: Matthew, Gabrielle and Marcus. Honourary grandchildren: Edgar, Evelyn, Andres and Alexander. Dear sister to Victor, Linda, Joanne and Marian. Doreen was born in Toronto on March 27, 1945, where she lived for 76 years. Last summer she joined her daughter living in Halifax, where she enjoyed her beautiful new home on a lake and was happy to be surrounded by nature. Doreen attended Danforth Technical School; worked as an administrator followed by a 27-year career in the grocery sector mainly with Miracle Food Mart while raising two children. Doreen also ran a successful international student homestay business for over 30 years, where she hosted hundreds of students who loved her dearly and often raved about her cooking. She was a DIY'er long before it became popular, making fashionable clothes for herself and her children to wear, to the home renovations she was extremely proud of. Doreen will always be remembered for her bright and charasmatic spirit, creative ability, and ensuring everyone she loved was always safe, well fed and cared for.

Family and friends may gather at Jerrett Funeral Home “Scarborough” 660 Kennedy Road, Scarborough, ON. (South of Eglinton Ave. E.) on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 6 to 8pm and Friday, August 5, 2022 from 3 to 5pm and 6 to 8pm. A Funeral Service will take place in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11am. Doreen will be laid to rest at Pine Hills Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
