Donald John Stewart

STEWART, Donald John, DFC. 1922 – 2018. It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Donald J Stewart, on March 15, 2018, at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital, in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Ivy Scott. Dear friend of the late Elizabeth Bream. He will be lovingly remembered by daughter Margaret (Bill Strath), son Ian (Bev) & step-daughters Anne & Mary Louise MacDonald. Don was a loving grandfather to Samantha Strath, Donny Strath (Leigh Ann Hall), Jeffrey Stewart & Kristin (Shane) Mulligan; step-grandfather to Lily Munro; great-grandfather to Brooke, Luke & Cooper Mulligan & to William Strath.

He was a much loved uncle to David Nimmo (Larry Lychowyd) and Gordon Nimmo (Michele) and to Kathryn, Laird, Brenda & the late Glenn Stewart. He was also very fond of his constantly growing extended families in Toronto, Edmonton, Sarnia, Montreal & Ottawa.

Don was the son of the late Nellie & Alec Stewart of Ville-St-Pierre, QC. He was pre-deceased by his sister Myrtle Nimmo & her husband Ross, & by his brother Roy & his wife Marjorie.

Don served as a pilot in WW II with 415 Squadron RCAF 6th Group, Bomber Command. He completed a Tour of Operations, 36 sorties, on February 27, 1945. Upon his return to Canada, he was employed for 14 years in Montreal with Revenue Canada as a corporation assessor followed by 26 years with Wajax Industries Ltd, in Montreal and Toronto, in various financial management capacities.

Don is resting at Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St (south of Steeles), Toronto. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24th, from 12:00 noon until the time of the funeral service which will be held in the chapel at 1:00 pm. A springtime interment will take place at Kenyon Church, Dunvegan, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital.
