Born on February 14, 1930, our Dad passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital on Saturday, December 16, 2017 with family by his side in his 88th year.
Beloved husband of the late Valerie (nee: Charlton). Devoted father to Kim Fielding, David (Carolyn), Judy Mills and Laurie Campbell (Craig Marshall).
Loving grandad to Katie, David, Holly, Spencer, Gordon, Jeffrey, Lindsay, Michael and great granddad to Wyatt, Jaxson and Olivia.
Son of Lancing and Charlotte Campbell, predeceased by his WWII veteran brother Bruce, he will be dearly missed by his brother Don and sister Charlotte Hector (Ian).
Dad’s 15 nieces and nephews will always have fond memories of Uncle Dave and the unlimited supply of Coca-Cola products in his home.
Dad graduated from UTS where he played a great game of football (leading to a tryout with the Argos) while always studying hard. He made many of his long-term and valued friendships during this time.
After graduating from U of T with an Engineering and Business Degree, he joined Coca-Cola, first on the Engineering team, and then spent more than 4 decades with Coke, where he became a steadfast force on the ever changing management team, responsible for all of the bottling and canning operations throughout Canada before ultimately becoming President. With Coca- Cola, Dad and Mom had the privilege of travelling to many destinations throughout the world.
Dad will always be remembered for his love of golf, downhill skiing, the Bully O Hunt Club, and the island cottage on Crystal Lake where he spent so much time with his family, relatives and friends. He loved to share his stories while creating cherished memories for his children.
Dad was an amazing Father, he taught his children to ski, swim, fish, drive boats; he built ice rinks in the backyard, set up neighborhood firework displays, made fires on the island to cook marshmallows and drove the boat for many hours at a time so we could water ski (He loved to get everyone into the whip leading to many spectacular wipe outs and those laughs entertained him for years),
He supported and enjoyed the many activities in which his 4 children partook, figure skating, hockey, horseback riding, ballet, guitar, oboe and violin lessons were just a few that he enjoyed while cheering us on.
As a proud grandfather, he went to Christmas concerts, ballet recitals and horse shows not only Ontario but also in Florida, hockey games, tennis matches, skating carnivals, in addition to being at every grandchild's birthday party.
Dad had a life that was well-lived and he was well-loved. We will miss him forever but are so grateful for all of the years that we had him as our trusted father, mentor, and guidance counsellor. He leaves behind children and grandchildren who can all dock a boat and that will make him more proud than anything else.
We know that Dad has found a cottage in heaven and is sitting with Mom, on the dock, with his friends who have travelled before him, sipping a Manhattan and enjoying a beautiful sunset.
A private family service and cremation has been held. If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. www.diabetes.ca
