Predeceased by his wife Esther (Riddell) and survived by his longtime companion Phyllis Thomas. Charles was the only son of the late Florence Mary (Plant) and George Thomas Scot-Brown and is survived by his son, Morrow, and daughter-in-law Donalda.
Charles came from a military family and enlisted in the Canadian Army at the onset of WW2. He volunteered for the CanLoan program and was transferred to the British Army. He landed in Normandy in 1944 and continued the fight through Holland and into Germany. At the completion of the war he re-joined the Canadian Army and served with the PPCLI until his retirement in 1971.
He never spoke of his wartime service until his return to Holland for the 50th Anniversary. He returned to Normandy for the 75th Anniversary. Charles was interviewed for the Memory Project and often spoke at schools of his wartime experience. He would speak without notes, and usually without a microphone. He was a gifted speaker.
Charles worked for Seagram’s Distillery after his military career, and later worked as a Deputy in the courthouse. He was active in the RCMI and recently celebrated his 98th birthday with friends at the Eagles Club.
Many thanks to his wonderful circle of friends and devoted caregivers.
Due to covid considerations there will be a celebration of life at a future date. Cremation has taken place.
Over the years, many have experienced the giant engaging personality of Charles, yet many more have known the quiet, kind, unconditional love of a beautiful soul. Godspeed our hero. We all love you.
