Richard was born to Richard and Florence McHugh in Hackensack, NJ on June 15, 1940. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School as President of the Student Council before joining the US Army as a Medic. He went on to study Mortuary Science and graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute. He then started his impressive 50+ year career as a Funeral Director beginning in north Jersey where he was a proud member of the Bogota Fire Department and the Knights of Columbus of Teaneck. After relocating to Ocean County, Dick became involved in many organizations of which he was quite proud and enjoyed “socializing” with his many friends, especially in the summer months on Ortley Beach. He was a long time member of the NJ State Funeral Directors Association as well as a long time Trustee and Chair of the The Good & Welfare Committee for the Monmouth & Ocean Funeral Directors Association. He was always the person to make sure no one was forgotten who may have fallen on bad times. After retiring he spent his days always connected to the “business” in one form or another.
Richard’s greatest love was spending time with his children, Loreen Vasselli & her husband Mike, and Kerry Mastrofilipo & her husband Al, along with his four grandchildren, Ryan, Alex, Michael and Mathew. Dick is also survived by his sister Catherine Harff, his nephew Brian Harff & his wife Stephanie and two great nephews, Jackson and Cameron.
