Richard C. Huff

Richard was proud of his time served in the United States Navy, stationed in Pearl Harbor with Admiral Nimitz. After an honorable discharge, he lived in Somerville, NJ where he became an active member and lead usher at The First United Methodist Church. He served as a fireman and president of the West End Hose Company in Somerville. He spent years working for Bethlehem Steel’s Buffalo Tank Division, in Dunellen, NJ. He retired from there and continued to work several jobs before working his final day at O’Donnell Stanton & Associates, in Toms River, when he was well into his 80’s. He was an avid New York Jets and Mets fan and read the NY Post and the Daily News to keep up with his teams. He loved going to Monmouth Park every summer with his family and he kept a seat warm at the poker machines at Bally’s in Atlantic City. He was quick with a joke and picked on all he loved. He enjoyed his “nectar of the gods” (beer) in a glass with salt, all things sweet, and above all, his family. The accomplishments of his family brought him the most pride and he loved to share with anyone who would listen.

His sense of humor, adoration for his family, and lively personality will be missed by all who knew him, especially his children: Sandra Granskie, James (Nancy) Huff, Richard Huff Jr, Kim (Mark) Schmidhauser, and David (Susan) Huff. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Lynn Ann & David Granskie, Jimmy (Susan), Michelle, & Stephanie Huff, Mya & Ava Schmidhauser, and Caitlyn Huff and one great-granddaughter, Peyton Huff. He was received in heaven by his first wife, Bernice, and his second wife, Judith, who both lost their battles to breast cancer. He was also reunited with his parents, Calvin and Mae.

Friends and family will gather on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. A service will occur Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. A burial will occur Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Franklin Memorial Park, 1800 Rt 27, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to your local fire department in Richard’s memory.
