Lourdes A. Diaz, 91, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New York City, she lived in Metuchen for many years before moving to Ft. Myers, FL in 1987 with her husband and son where she lived and enjoyed 30 years of Florida sunshine before returning to New Jersey in 2017. Upon her return she resided in Toms River for 4 years. Lourdes loved spending time with her family, cooking, watching her beloved NY Yankees, setting up her beautiful Christmas Village and doing crossword puzzles.
Her daughters and sons have many memories of her when they were young, sitting in her favorite brown glider chair in their living room solving the puzzles in the daily paper. That chair and skill followed her to Florida and back. She also kept a little table in her room next to that chair that was the"Crossword Puzzle Command Central"! She must've got really good over the years because at age 91 she was doing the New York Times Saturday puzzles which are ridiculously hard. She considered herself a "cruciverbalist".
She was predeceased by her loving husband Gustavo in 2001 and devoted son Edward in 2016. Surviving are her son Gustavo Diaz and his wife Helen of Oxford, NJ; her daughters Lourdes Biebelberg and her companion Rocco of Metuchen, NJ; and Blanche Lambert and her husband Tony of Beachwood NJ; 7 grandchildren Nicole and husband Greg, Catherine, Laura and companion Ed, Joseph and wife Caitlin, Keith, Tracey and husband Garrett, Lyndsey, and 4 great grandchildren Kendall, Kaylee, Ryan, and Harrison. In addition, she has a loving family headed by her dearest and fondest cousin Jose, in the Dominican Republic.
She will live forever in our memories, hearts, thoughts, and dreams. She taught us all how to approach life with strong family bonds and many good deeds. Words cannot express how sad we feel.
Services will be private under the direction of Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River.
