Joseph Patrick Farry of Toms River, NJ, formerly of the Vailsburg section of Newark quietly passed away in his home in Toms River on Wednesday March 30th, 2016. Joe Farry was a good man. He proudly served his country in WWII throughout the Middle East and African Theatres from March ’42 through October ’45. He also proudly served his community for over 30 years as a Newark Policeman, rising to the rank of Detective prior to retiring in 1981. He and his wife, Marie Dorothy McGuckin Farry, moved to Silver Ridge Park, Toms River in 1978. He was a founding member of the ELK’s Lodge 93 in Newark, and was an active member of the Toms River Retired Police and Fireman’s Association and VFW Post 10185. Most importantly, Joe cherished his family and neighbors. Whether caring for Marie, his wife of 64 years, who passed away in 2011; debating politics with his daughters, Patricia Massey and Kathleen Shaw of Edison, NJ and NYC respectively; or kibitzing with his six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, those who knew Joe experienced his determination, quiet dignity, good humor, and his unwavering moral compass. His sister Ann McDonough, formerly of Nutley, NJ, his nephews and nieces as well as his caregivers Peggy and Sharon will also miss his sparkle. Visitation will be on Monday April 4th, 2016 from 4-6pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd, Toms River, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday April 5th, 2016 at 10am at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Toms River. Interment will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Silver Ridge Park First Aid Squad, Inc., P.O. Box 3311, Toms River, NJ, 08756.
