Dr. Robert Brunton Smith

Dr. Robert Brunton Smith, 65, of Toms River, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.  He was born in Upper Darby, PA to parents Kenneth and Elizabeth (nee Grassie) Smith on March 25, 1959. He lived in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania before moving to Toms River, New Jersey in 1968.

Rob attended Toms River High School North in New Jersey after which he graduated from Ross University of Medicine in 1993. Rob specialized in Emergency Medicine and practiced at various hospitals in Missouri for 27 years before moving to the US Virgin Islands where he was a staff physician in the emergency room at the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center in St. Thomas for the past 5 years. Rob taught emergency medicine at the Trauma One Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee and trained with FEMA for Emergency Disaster assistance. He also was involved as a physician at the annual Virgin Islands Paradise Jam College Women’s Basketball tournament.

Rob’s other passions were reading and the beach. He was a lifeguard in his youth and in recent years he would make a special trip to Seaside during the Labor Day holiday weekend to assist the lifeguard staff. Rob was a warm, friendly and giving person who will be missed greatly by friends and family.  

Surviving are his son Ethan Smith, his daughter Delaney Smith, his brothers, Edward Smith and his wife Linda, Keith Smith and his wife Jeanie, and Jeffrey Smith, and his sisters Kim Smith and her husband James DeBlois, and Andrea Reynolds and her husband Hank; nieces and nephews, Heather Brady and her husband Andy, Derek Smith, Garrett Smith and his wife Rouba; Taylor Smith and his husband Nicholas Szerszen, Austin Smith, Aidan Smith, Roman Smith, Nicholas Smith, River Reynolds and Ruth Ann Reynolds; 

A Memorial Visitation Period will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, between the hours of 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Horizon Funeral & Cremation Service, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
