Donald Acquavella, 70, of Toms River, ( formerly of Belmar) New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Newark, New Jersey by his late parents, Arnold and Miriam Acquavella (Donohue). Before retiring, Donald worked as an LPN at Jersey Shore Medical Center for 38 years. He was a dedicated caregiver, lovingly caring for not only for his patients, but also his aunt, mother-in-law and wife for many years.
Outside of work, Donald was actively involved in community theatre, participating as an actor, director and set designer. He was a member of the St. Rose Roman Catholic Church in Belmar for over 40 years, where he was actively involved for many years as a Leader of Song, Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Altar Rosary Society. He loved traveling to Pennsylvania, visiting the beach, walking the boardwalk, singing, playing trivia games, solving crossword puzzles and word games, and watching Jeopardy. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family and enjoyed cooking and hosting celebrations.
Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife of 39 years Hazel in 2012; his two sisters Antoinette Mace and Grace Mason; his mother-in-law Ella Hall; his sister-in-law Edna Rinaldi; and his aunt Helen Donohue.
He is survived by his three children Dante and Mary Grace Acquavella of Elmira, NY and Elizabeth Menzel and her husband Adam of Bayville NJ; his adopted daughter Tracy Coffey-Hofacker and her husband Billy of Carbondale, PA; his three sisters Kay Romano of Seagirt, NJ, Helen Sauer of Springhill, FL and Miriam Yuknus of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ; his two grandchildren, Lydia and Caleb Menzel and many nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, New Jersey 08755.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Rose Roman Catholic Church, Belmar, New Jersey, followed by interment at St. Anne's Cemetery in Wall, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s name may be made to the New Jersey Association of the Deaf or Grace Hospice.
