Daniel T. Shiffer, a devoted husband, father, friend, and Coach Dan to many, passed away at the age of 61 on November 17, 2024. He will be remembered for his warm heart, sense of humor, and deep love and loyalty for his wife Karen, two sons Ryan and Matthew, friends, and family. Dan’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born April 6th, 1963 in Bloomington, Illinois, Dan spent his life creating lasting memories with his loved ones. He spent every day being an amazing husband and father. His lasting legacy will be those of his two sons who he was immensely proud of. Those who knew him well know how often he spoke of them. He took immense pride in watching his boys grow into the men they are today, and he was always there to offer guidance, encouragement, humor, and love.
Dan’s joy for life was evident in the simple pleasures he cherished. He found great happiness in spending time with his family, whether it was walking his beloved dog, Bubba, around the neighborhood, or playing golf with his sons—one of his favorite pastimes. His passion for the game of golf brought him closer to Ryan and Matthew, and many of their happiest moments were shared on the greens.
A true friend to many, Dan was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and unwavering loyalty. His easy going nature and positive outlook on life made him a joy to be around, and he will be remembered for his genuine care for others. He was a simple man and did everything he could to provide a helping hand to those in need.
Dan and his wife of 30 years, Karen, shared countless adventures together that created memories for a lifetime. Dan sacrificed so much to ensure he was present for all of his kids sporting events and life accomplishments. Due to his immense love for his kids, some wondered how he and Karen would be after they became empty nesters. This was just the start of a new and stronger love for him and his wife. They took this time to enjoy each other and begin new adventures with a new member of their family, their dog Bubba. Dan and Karen stayed active within the community, while also staying core to their values, being there for each other and their children.
Dan is survived by his wife, Karen; his sons, Ryan and Matthew, daughter-in-law Ashley, father William, step mother Mardi and brother Adam, mother and father-in-law Steve and Marie Kreuger; and countless friends and extended family members who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his mother Arlene Shiffer.
Dan's love, laughter, and spirit will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be planned for Friday, November 22nd at Anderson and Campbell, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ from 4pm-8pm.
Dan had a deep passion for golf, for which he loved to play with his two sons, family, and friends. For his celebration of life on Friday, November 22nd, there will be a display where visitors can write a small message for him on a golf ball. Please bring one along with you for the family to cherish in the years to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dan's name to Jonah’s Ark (https://www.jonahsarkanimalrescue.com), the dog shelter where he found his best friend, Bubba.
