Clarence “King” Carter, 95, of Beachwood, NJ, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Riverside Park, NJ to Clarence and Minnie King Carter on April 11, 1926, King resided in Seaside Park for most of his life before moving to Beachwood. He joined the U.S. Navy Seabees and served during WW II in Kodiak, Alaska, Dutch Harbor and Attu in the Aleutian Islands. King retired from Ocean County Sheriff’s Department in Toms River as a Dispatcher after 26 years of service. He was a life member of the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad and member of PBA #258, VFW Post of Berkeley, NJ, American Legion Post #351, Seaside Heights, NJ, Masonic Sunrise Lodge #288, Toms River, NJ, Ocean County Shrine Club and Crescent Shrine Band and Minicars. King was a longtime faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beachwood.
King’s dispatcher duties with the Sheriff’s Department were mostly on the midnight shift where he make it his duty to make sure that all his men were all safe. He loved the ocean, having a “shack” on Island Beach back when there were dirt roads and the sand to drive his beach buggy on. A good laugh and some corny jokes made his day.
He was predeceased by his first wife Ann Carter and his stepson Kevin LeBaron. Surviving are his wife Phyllis LeBaron Carter; son Steven Carter; daughter Dorothy Servis; his stepchildren Reba Parks, Lance (Jean) LeBaron, Lisa (Don) Jones, and Kim (Bob) Senkewicz; and many loved and loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Because of the pandemic, the family will schedule a Memorial Service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at a later date. Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Shrine Hospital for Children in Philadelphia in King’s memory.
