Barbara Meehan

With great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Jane (Becker) Meehan on June 14, 2020. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty years, Joseph L. Meehan, her daughter in law Susan Meehan, and grandchildren Connell and Caroline Meehan. Her son Joseph preceded her in death.

Barbara was born on July 1, 1938 in Jersey City, NJ to Kathryn (McDonough). She quit high school when her mother became ill and later, with her husband, helped raise two of her sisters. She is survived by her brothers Robert (Cecelia) Becker, Kenneth (Susan) Becker, Edward Becker and Brian Becker, as well as sisters Karen (Thomas) Moraghan and Gail Lannon. Her sister Mary Meehan preceded her in death. Barbara is also survived by countless loving nieces and nephews, including her godson Ned Moraghan, nephew Thomas Moraghan, goddaughter Kerri-Anne (Christopher) Ferri, Melissa Lannon and Gary Lannon.

Barbara loved her large Irish family more than anything else. She met her husband Joe as a teenager in the projects of Jersey City, and always bragged that he was a great catch. Later, they moved to Toms River NJ to make a better life for themselves and their son. Their house was always open to friends and family alike, and parties would be thrown at the drop of a hat. Barbara was much beloved and will be sorely missed.

Private cremation is being arranged by Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River NJ and a celebration of life will be announced at a future date.
