Sharon was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to William and Joann Hughes. When she was 6, she and her family moved to Columbia, Maryland. Sharon was the youngest of 6 children which might have explained her quiet resolve. She was easy going - some would say unflappable - and was quick to display her beautiful, dimpled smile that complimented a sharp sense of humor. She loved to create and had a knack for making all around her happy. She was ever humble - sometimes rare for those blessed with her inner and outer beauty. She had a myriad of nicknames growing up that were usually tied to her place in the family order but were a sure sign of the love her family felt for her. That love persisted even as she turned on her older siblings and became a rabid Baltimore Ravens fan! Sharon graduated from Wilde Lake High School and Loyola University, Maryland. She then entered into a very successful 23 year career as a systems analyst at Northrop Grumman - a world renown company with great compassion for its employees and in particular for Sharon. While at Loyola she met her husband Brian to whom she was married for 35 years. They settled in Ellicott City Maryland and raised two wonderful daughters, Natalie and Lindsey. One of their enduring joys was spending time at Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland with extended family and friends. While in her prime, life got in the way via a debilitating neurological disease. Sharon did her very best throughout and always had a smile, as was her way. She won lasting admiration while waging this battle as a wife, mother, and coworker. A forever thank you to her devoted husband Brian who kept her in the comfort of home long after most wouldn’t and never failed to honor his vow of for better or for worse. Also a heartfelt thank you to her many caregivers over the years whose compassion, companionship, patience, and attentive care made her difficult days a little less so. This world lost a beautiful soul but we take solace that she will be reunited with her dad, sister Barbara, and brother Bob among others who have and will provide guidance and strength. She is survived by her husband Brian, children Natalie and Lindsey, mother Joann Hughes, sister Carol Woods, brothers William Hughes and James Hughes, and a much longer list of loving relatives.
Sharon’s life will be celebrated with a Receiving of Family and Friends on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc.
