He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carole Ellingsworth (nee Kauffman); his children Christy Ellingsworth, Lauren Reilly (Steve), John Ellingsworth (Heidi), and Linda Hetrick (Garry); his grandchildren Ruthie, Penny and Annie Ellingsworth, and Wilson Hetrick; his sisters Ruth "Chickie" Rittler (Donald) and Barbara "Barbe" Lang (Edward J.); his nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Born in Baltimore on January 20, 1948, he was a 1966 graduate of Towson High School and a 1970 graduate of Cornell University. He also holds graduate degrees from University of Maryland and Loyola University. Dick was involved in several businesses including W.R. Grace, General Elevator Company (which took the family to Houston for six years), GreenLeaf Christian Books and Keystone Scent Company. Once retired, he became a volunteer with the Red Cross, Helping Up Mission, Christian Community Center and GBMC.
He enjoyed playing sports - lacrosse, golf, running and tennis. Music was very important to him as was reading the Bible and Christian books. He was an active member at each church with which he was involved. He served as an elder, choir member and teacher. His most recent love was participating in the ESOL program at Timonium Church. His quiet Christian example was an inspiration to many.
Family was very important. He took joy in planning family trips, meticulously drafting itineraries on his computer spreadsheets to ensure that he accounted for every detail. He and Carole developed a love of cruising and especially enjoyed a trip through the Panama Canal.
The family will receive friends at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 West Padonia Road (at York Road), Timonium-Cockeysville, Maryland on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 1pm in Timonium Presbyterian Church, 303 W. Timonium Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093.
Interment will be private in Druid Ridge Cemetery.
