Eleanor R. Pearce, a retired teacher and elementary school counselor, died on October 4, 2023 at the age of 92. She had been a resident of Edenwald, a Continuing Care Community in Towson, Maryland, for the past 18 years. Eleanor graduated from Sparks High School in 1948 and the University of Delaware in 1952. After teaching for a year in Delaware, Eleanor was sent as part of an International Farm Youth Exchange to Luxembourg. She returned to teach in Baltimore, earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and was an elementary school counselor in Baltimore City and Baltimore County for 38 years.
Eleanor was the daughter of Robert and Rebekah Smith Pearce of Sparks, Maryland. She is predeceased by her sister, Barbara Pearce Hudson, and brother-in-law George Hudson. She is survived by four nephews, Daniel, Bruce, Wayne and James Hudson and their wives, Mabeth, Lisa, Amanda and Susan, 12 great nieces and nephews, and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and she enjoyed traveling which she did extensively worldwide visiting more than 35 countries. She enjoyed the theater and symphony, and spending time with family and friends. A lifelong Episcopalian, Eleanor was a congregant for 35 years at The Church of Saint Michael and All Angels in Baltimore where she taught Sunday school and served on the Alter Guild and Vestry. She became an active congregant at The Church of the Holy Comforter in Lutherville when she moved to Towson more than 25 years ago. Eleanor was a member of the Alter Guild and attended bible classes.
A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Holy Comforter, 130 W. Seminary Ave., Timonium, MD 21093 on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Eleanor’s name to the Edenwald Scholarship Fund, Inc., 800 Southerly Road, Box 142, Towson, Md 21286.
