Edward M. Ring

Dr. Ring was born in St. Louis MO, the third of seven children of Paul Fusz Ring and Eleanor Murray Ring. Graduating from Georgetown University and St. Louis University Medical School, he trained at New York Hospital and finally at Baylor University Hospital, with pioneer heart surgeons Drs. DeBakey and Cooley. He spent his professional career as a Thoracic Surgeon.

Dr. Ring served as a Captain in the US Army (1961-1963), stationed in Heidelberg Germany. He later practiced medicine in St. Louis, Auburn ME and finally Sun City AZ. There “he found a niche as a sought-after Assisting Surgeon, possessing great experience and a sense of humor, but with little ego. He was a gentle man and a loyal friend”, according to his brother Patrick Ring.

Ned was married for 36 years to Claudine Vincent Ring, a Parisian and the daughter of the former French Cabinet Minister of Education and then Commerce before the Nazis came to power prior to World War II. After Claudine’s death in 2005, Dr. Ring retired from practice and moved to Baltimore to be closer to family. Here he pursued his long-dormant interests – the piano and dancing. It was through dancing that he met his companion, Charlotte Grasmick.

Dr. Ring is survived by brothers, Paul F. Ring (Barbara, St. Louis), John R. Ring (Susie, Dallas), David A. Ring (Chicago), Patrick O. Ring (Betsy, Baltimore) and a sister, Kathy R. Rich (Ken, Grants Pass, OR). A man of science, Dr. Ring donated his body to The Anatomy Board of Maryland. Services will be private.
