Lori was born on March 11th, 1976 at Homestead AFB, Florida to Michael Glen and Mary Beth (Foley) Jordan. As a child in a military family, Lori moved around a lot before her family settled down in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lori graduated from Albuquerque Academy in 1994 and attended Eastern New Mexico University. After leaving ENMU, Lori began working at the AOL call center in Albuquerque. Lori would often tell stories about the “interesting” calls received during her time at AOL.
In 2001, Lori married James Michael Laflin, whom she had known since 7th grade. Together with her daughter Jolene, they moved to Hillsboro, Oregon on a temporary assignment for Intel. While on temporary assignment, Lori and Jamie welcomed their son Kevin into their family. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter Lori had a stroke which left her with limited use of her left leg and no use of the left arm. Her inner strength and resolve was shown as she tirelessly rehabbed to regain the ability to walk and drive.
A few years later, after making the move to Oregon permanent, Lori’s resolve was once again put to the test as she fell and broke her left hip (on her birthday). Once again, Lori endured a lengthy rehab and was able to walk again.
Late in 2016, Lori would face her biggest challenge. She was diagnosed with a liposarcoma in her right leg (which was her strong leg after the stroke). The surgery to remove the sarcoma cost Lori much of her hamstring and required the sciatic nerve to be cut. Once again, rehab was long and exhausting, but Lori was up to the challenge and was able to walk with a walker.
Unfortunately, after nearly a year cancer free, the sarcoma returned in early 2018. This time it had spread and could not be surgically removed. But Lori continued to fight the cancer as best she could until it eventually took her life.
Lori was a remarkable woman whose strength and determination were an inspiration to all those who knew her. She had an incredibly tough life yet never gave up.
Lori is survived and loved by her husband James, children Jolene and Kevin, mother Mary Beth Jordan, sister Tracey and husband, Chris Sellers; as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. She was proceeded in death by her father Michael.
Her family invites you to her memorial service which will be on Sunday, June 10th at 2:00pm at Young’s Funeral Home Tigard, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in her name to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
