EVELYN JEAN STITCHLER WAS BORN TO DELMAR AND CAROLINE (NIELSON) STITCHLER IN SHERWOOD, OREGON ON DECEMBER 8, 1924. SHE GRADUATED FROM SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE MARRIED “TOMMY” THOMPSON ON MAY 11, 1955. EVELYN BECAME A MILITARY WIFE, AND THEY MOVED TO TONGUE POINT NAVAL STATION. EVENTUALLY TOMMY LEFT THE NAVY AND JOINED THE US AIR FORCE. THEY MOVED TO AIR FORCE BASES IN THE U.S. AND THE PHILIPPINES. SHE CONSIDERED EVERY TRANSFER AN ADVENTURE AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITY AND INSTILLED THE SAME IN HER CHILDREN.
IN 1970, EVELYN AND TOMMY DESIGNED AND BUILT THEIR DREAM HOME IN SHERWOOD WHERE THEY RESIDED FOR FOUR DECADES. EVELYN TENDED HER GARDEN AND FRUIT TREES. SHE LOVED TO BAKE AND WON MANY STATE FAIR RIBBONS FOR BAKING. SHE WOULD START HER DAY WITH A CUP OF COFFEE AND WORK THE OREGONIAN CROSSWORD PUZZLE (IN PEN!) OVER THE TELEPHONE WITH THEIR GOOD FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR, MAURY HERRON. EVELYN WAS VERY PROUD OF HER DANISH HERITAGE AND ENJOYED HER TRIP TO DENMARK. SHE LOVED ALL MUSIC, WHETHER SINGING WITH THE GIRL’S TRIO IN HIGH SCHOOL; DANCING TO A SAMBA; ATTENDING A PAVAROTTI CONCERT; OR YODELING FOR HER FRIENDS AND CAREGIVERS AT ARBOR OAKS MEMORY CARE. SHE LOVED AND
SPOILED MANY CATS AND DOGS THROUGH THE YEARS.
SHE LEAVES HER DAUGHTERS, NANCY J. CONKLIN (BRAD) OF DUNDEE; DARCIE L. THOMPSON OF LINCOLN CITY; AND STEPSONS, C. DENNIS THOMPSON (JOAN) OF FLORIDA AND CONRAD C. THOMPSON (BONNIE) OF CALIFORNIA. SHE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY TWO GRANDCHILDREN ; THREE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; AND SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER BELOVED HUSBAND JAMES M. “TOMMY” THOMPSON IN 2005 AND BY HER DEAR SISTER, GERALDINE J. LILLY.
SHE WAS THE BEST MOM, “MAMMO,” “GG,” AND “AUNTIE ONE.”
EVELYN WILL BE LOVED AND MISSED FOREVER.
