Susie grew up in Alabama where she met her late husband, Bill. They were married in 1949 and had celebrated 70 years of marriage before Bill passed away in 2019. Bill’s company would require that they move to Georgia then to Oklahoma. Susie spent most of her working career in the shoe department at several different retailors as either a manager or salesperson.
While working she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Theatre from Central State University in Edmond, OK. She was very active in her church and involved directly with many young adult programs. After receiving her degree, Susie made the decision to move to Colorado to pursue an advanced degree in Communications at the University of Colorado-Boulder. While in Colorado, she also worked for several retailors in their shoe departments. She finally retired from Target in 2009.
Family, friends, and serving her church were extremely important in her life. She was a carpenter at heart and in her lifetime completed multiple home projects. She was extremely proud of helping her daughter renovate her first townhome. Her smile and southern charm were contagious and uplifting to all those around her.
Susie is survived by her loving children: Charlotte (Lee) Klawitter of Thornton, CO and Peggy (Jake) Hernandez of Thornton, CO. and her precious grandchildren Elizabeth, Andrea( Frank) and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill on February 16, 2019.
Visitation will take place on Thursday February 16, 2023, from 9:00-10:00. The service will begin at 10:00 am followed by the burial and reception at 11:30 am. The visitation, service and burial will be held at Olinger Highlands Mortuary 10201 Grant St. Thornton, CO.
