Sherry (Schaafsma) Yost of Loveland CO finished this earthly race by running into Jesus’ arms on May 19, 2024. She was the cherished wife of Greg Yost for 42 years. While in hospice, she was surrounded by her husband Greg, brother Paul from Wisconsin, and cousin Karen from Pennsylvania. They were blessed to be with her until her peaceful passage into Jesus’ presence.
Sherry was born July 29, 1957 to Eugene and Ingrid Schaafsma (both deceased) in Iola, Wisconsin. Raised in a small town (Waupaca, WI), it was normal that if you got in trouble on one side of town, your mom would know by the time you got home for dinner. July 4 was a favorite holiday, from the corn roast to swimming in Shadow Lake to the evening fireworks and sparklers. Her favorite childhood memory was spending time on her maternal grandparents’ (Gustav and Ruth Anderson) farm and later having her grandmother live with her and her mom. Sherry asked the Lord to be in control of her life in September 1968. She later recommitted her life to The Lord in the fall of 1979. She had moved to Colorado in 1978 as she felt led to be near her Aunt Margaret and Leonard Turner. When she moved to Greeley, she met Amy (and Dick) Ness, whom she “adopted” as her second set of parents. She met her soulmate, Greg, in Greeley Colorado in 1980. They were married on September 4, 1982. She attended Aims College in Greeley CO. She retired after 30 years with the State of Colorado working as an administrative assistant for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the University of Northern Colorado, and Colorado State University. Sherry enjoyed reading, church activities, community Bible Study, card making, connecting with friends, visiting national and historical sites, puzzles, and road trips with Greg. She was a loving, giving, generous person, who helped others as much as she could.
Sherry is survived by her beloved husband Greg; her sister Cindy and husband Joe Schumacher and children Erin, Jackie and Jason; her brother Paul and wife Jackie Schaafsma and their children Tiffany and Eric; her sister-in-law Meredith and husband Ted Baker and niece Morgan; her beloved Cousin Karen and husband Harry Sammler and their children Dawn and Destiny; her beloved Cousin Wayne Pfleiger and wife Chris and their children Jeremiah and Megan. Other cousins and their families include Diane Geshwind, Mary Anne Wellford and husband Billy, Karen and husband Terry Winchester, Carlene and husband Mike Juricek, Gary Schaafsma, and Keith Pfleiger and wife Melissa; Greg’s Uncle Russell Fouts, Greg’s Cousins Sue Blue and her children Carla and Karen, Judy Krause, Fouts, Shella Nottoli, Jim Fouts and his wife Wanda, and Terry Malcolm and wife Carol, Beverly Zimmer, Neva Holleman, and Cindy Fouts-Froehike. Sherry often spoke appreciatively of her many beloved friends-too many to list.
The family is grateful for the expert and compassionate care of Dr. Bradley Corr and the UC Health Cancer Center; the Denver Hospice; and the many friends and family who supported her with loving correspondence over the years.
