Russel Kent Koenig passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024. Russel was born in Grover, CO on February 4, 1939. He was born to Chris and Ernestine Koenig. He was one of eight children.He grew up on a dryland farm, always helping with chores and riding horses. Russ and his brothers and their friends attended dances in Pine Bluffs, Wy. In high school he played football on an 8man squad and he also played baseball.
After high school, his brother David taught him to drive a truck. He worked for David for a short time. He volunteered for the draft and entered the United States Army on November 1, 1957. He spent his time in the Army in Germany and also touring Europe. He came home in October 1959 and was discharged in 1963.
While working as a truck driver in Gillette, Wy, he met his bride Laurel Robing in March of 1960. They were married on April 15, 1961. To this union four children were born. Chris Dwayne in 1961, Renita Jo in 1963, Pamela Jean in 1965 and Brett Alan in 1969. In June of 1968, they purchased a house in Commerce City, CO and he resided there until his death in 2024. He was medically forced to retire from trucking in December 2018.
Russel is preceded in death by his parents Chris and Ernestine Koenig. Three brothers David, Alvin and Lynn. One sister ChrisEllen.
He is survived by his wife Laurel and his children and their spouses. Chris (Joanne), Renita (Cheryl), Pamela (Danny), and Brett (JoAnn). Five grandchildren and their spouses. Brian, Sabrina (Jaeden), Casey (Camiryn), Adam and Kent. Two Great Granddaughters, Oaklee Grace and Stormie Faith.
Russel was a simple man and he lived a simple life.
He will be sorely missed by his family and anyone who knew him.
