Janice A. Johnson

Janice A. Johnson, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in the Lincoln Health Care Center in Hugo, Colorado. We believe she is celebrating her life in Heaven and holding hands with all whom she loved.

Janice Ann Morrow was born October 2, 1944, in Hoxie, Kansas, to Virgil and Bernice Morrow. She was the 4th born of five children. She had three older brothers, Richard, Dick, and Allen, and one younger sister Virginia. She lived a long life as a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, momma, mom, grammy, and auntie but her favorite title was “Grammy” Jan.

Jan grew up in Limon, Colorado, and, as a young single mother of three, worked multiple jobs to care for her family. In 1974, Jan met the love of her life, Marv Johnson. After one year of dating and with approval from Jan's children, Jan and Marv were married on October, 15th 1975 at the First Baptist Church in Limon. For the next four years, Jan and Marv were actively involved in the Baptist Church as they grew strong in their shared faith in Christ. In addition to church activities, Jan and Marv became huge fans of the Limon Badgers. You always knew Jan was in the crowd as she rang her cowbell with excitement, especially during Football season. In 1980 Jan and Marv moved to Aurora, Colorado so that Marv could be closer to his job at Safeway Foods. Sadly, in 1983, and after just eight beautiful years of marriage, Jan lost her greatest love, Marv, to cancer. Even with this tragic loss, Jan's faith never wavered.

In early 1984, while still living in Aurora, Jan joined the dental practice of Horiuchi and D'Amico, DDS, PC. Jan spent the next 19 years working alongside some of her dearest friends before retiring in 2003. During those 18 years, Jan continued studying the bible and growing her faith. Jan's most essential values in life were her faith in Jesus Christ, her love of family, and her cherished friendships.

One of Jan's happiest times in life happened in 2001 when her son Rick and his family moved back to Limon, where Rick became the pastor of the church that Jan's family had been members of while living in Limon. Upon her retirement from the dental practice in 2003, Jan moved back to Limon to be close to Rick and Melanie and grandchildren and she worked part-time at the Plains Medical Center. When not at work or bible study, you could find her in church every Sunday with a smile on her face and pride in her heart as she would listen to Rick give his Sunday sermons. Jan was also active in following her grandchildren’s numerous sports and school events.

In 2009, Jan experienced one of her most significant and painful losses that would test her faith when Rick and his youngest daughter, Bethany, died in an auto accident. It was the love she had for and the love she received from a special little girl named Makenzie, who Jan had babysat and cared for over the past 4 years that carried Jan through this most difficult time. As time passed, Jan's grief was ultimately replaced with joy, as each of her grandchildren had children of their own. Jan lived her remaining years in Limon, celebrating the life events of those she loved most. She will be missed by all who called her a friend and by and all who loved her as family.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Bernice (Mile) Morrow; two brothers, Richard and Dick Morrow; a younger sister Ginny (Morrow) Henry; her husband Marv Johnson; and her son Rick Taylor and granddaughter, Bethany Taylor. Jan is survived by; her brother Allen (Greta) Morrow of Cheyanne, WY; her children Todd (Kimberlee) Taylor of Stevensville, MT, Just (Sam) Taylor of Phoenix, AZ, Debi Sallee of Limon, CO, and Melanie Taylor of Limon, CO. Jan is also survived by her grandchildren, Abbey Taylor and Corry Taylor, Amanda and (Chris) Pahls, Heather and (Bo) Randolph, Lucas and (Natalie) Taylor, Mike Sallee, and Trisha Sallee, her great-grandchildren, Dakota, Taylynn, Ivaiya, Kaycin, Kalyon, Norah, Charlie, Ada, Frankie, Avery, Alexis, Bear, Max, Samuel, Christian, and Nathan. Jan’s extended family includes nephews, Jarod, Jason, and Brian Morrow and Jan’s adopted family, Brad and Cindy Tacha, and their children, Kory, Drey, and Makenzie.
