Ethyl Jean Knutson passed from her earthly life on February 2, 2024, at the age of 96. Jean was born to James and Dorothy (Shadle) Clemens on July 22, 1927, in Boone, Iowa. As the second of three children, she shared a special bond with her brothers “Jimmy and Jackie” throughout her life.
Jean was confirmed in Augustana Lutheran Church of Boone and was active in church, school, and community activities, and was very active in VFW Auxiliary. Jean was well-liked, and the local newspaper often reported on her many social activities.
On December 5, 1947, Jean was united in marriage with Philip Jerome Knutson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following a wedding trip through the west, they began their married life in Boone, Iowa. In October 1950, the couple’s only child, Mark Thomas Knutson, was born.
Soon after Mark’s birth, the family relocated to Colorado, living in Boulder, Denver, Westminster, and finally in Northglenn. Jean was proud to be a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed watching baseball games on TV and was a loyal fan of Tony Conigliaro, often singing out his name with a twinkle in her eye. Jean and Phil both valued family connections and took many trips back to Iowa for family visits. After Phil’s death in 2001, Jean remained in her home for as long as she was able, spending many hours with Mark. She especially enjoyed their time together watching Colorado Rockies baseball games. Jean spent the last years of her life receiving care in a nursing home.
Jean will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, love of family, and faith in God.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Vernon Pritchard, husband Philip, son Mark, brothers James and Jack, sister Janet Pritchard, and father James Clemens.
Jean was reunited with Phil in Olinger Highland Cemetery, Thornton, Colorado.
