was born on June 15, 1931 in Lafayette to Andrea and Emilio Silva. She graduated in the class of
1949 from Lafayette High School. On July 26, 1951, she married the love of her life and best friend,
Manuel Roy Chavez.
Mickey worked in health services where she advocated for women's health and access to healthcare for migrant workers and their families.
A lifelong Lafayette Bobcat, Mickey took initiative to spend quality time with her loved ones,
and always made a sincere effort to help people in need. If she was not caring for one of her
grandchildren, she could be found volunteering for the local library, church or throughout the
community. As an avid sports fan, Mickey was always cheering on her grandchildren at sporting
events or supporting the Rockies, Nuggets and Broncos. She was very fond of nature and loved all
things conservation, gardening, birding, walking, and fishing. In the winter months, she would pass
the time by tying flies or rosaries, reading books of any genre and occasionally watching a novela.
Mickey loved visiting neighboring towns and would venture up the hill to gamble more times than she would care to admit. She was most proud when she'd get a deal at the segunda or antique shops. Undoubtedly, crossword puzzles held a special place in her heart. Mickey was full of life and
encouraged others to find the good in everything.
Mickey is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Roy; children - Larry (Martha) Chavez
of Lafayette and Ron (Marie) Chavez of Mead; grandchildren - Ciana (Ryan) Costner of Lafayette,
Darren (Natalie) Chavez of Erie and Matthew Chavez of Mead; great-grandchildren - Amiah, Nolan
and Declan Costner of Lafayette and Landon and Marco Chavez of Erie. She is preceded in death by
her mother, father, sister and brothers along with many loved ones.
On Friday, Oct. 22, a rosary and mass for Mickey will be held at 10:30 a.m at the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church (715 Cabrini Drive, Lafayette) with the burial immediately following at the
Olinger Highland Cemetery in Thornton, then a reception at Lionsgate Event Center at the Gatehouse
(1055 US 287, Lafayette) and will be held from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for folks to donate to the Health Equity Fund at Boulder
Community Health. The Link is provided below.
