Elvera Goad

Elvera Joan (Heinze) Goad was born on June 16, 1931 in Wilson, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Duane (Dewey) Goad. She is survived by her daughters Joan Mills and Gary, Jill Goad and Don Distel, her son James Goad and Gayle and her grandchildren Amanda and Jeremy Mills, and Jen and Kyle Rumsey, her God child Laura Schmidtberger and her two siblings Melva Boxberger and Ellen Hanzlicek. Elvera spent her younger years in Wilson. On September 8, 1952, at twenty one years of age, she married Duane Goad in Ellsworth County. As a new couple they moved west to Aurora, Colorado to start their family. Have two wonderful daughters and their little boy James. Story has it that the girls were the ones that named him Jim, by pulling his name from a hat. One of many adventures that Elvera and Dewey enjoyed in Colorado was going into business with friends Gary and Marian Atkins in the late 60's and purchasing a liquor store in Aurora. The kids have many fond memories helping their parents at the store. Elvera had several occupations in her lifetime, from Liquor Store owner, to working as a bookkeeper at #1 Auto Parts to having the privilege of watching her grandson Jeremy, and many others children, with in home daycare. Even after she retired she could not stay home. She worked at one of her favorite eateries, Bender's Brat House. One of Elvera's passions has always been her church, St. Matthew Lutheran. Whether she was singing in the choir, making costumes or sitting in the pew, you know you would always see her there on Sunday. She also spent her life showing the ones around her how much they were loved. From her first two grandchildren Amanda and Jeremy to the one's she inherited, Jen and Kyle. Elvera made every holiday special for them, making trinkets and memories that will last a lifetime. She would gladly take her grandchildren to the skate park or shopping or out to lunch or even bingo. Anyone that knew Elvera knew that she also had a real passion for Colorado sports teams, the Nuggets, Broncos, and especially the Rockies. She attended Rockies games every chance she could. She knew the players and stats and if she didn't like the announcer of the game she would listen to the radio while watching the action on TV. Elvera's memory will be in our hearts forever. We are all so blessed to have had the privilege of knowing the love, kindness, and generosity of such a wonderful person.
