With great sadness, we announce the passing of Addie Marie Shaw who peacefully departed from this life on September 27th, 2024. She was a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Remembered by all who knew her as a kind soul and the guiding light of her family, we are filled with gratitude for the love, wisdom, and laughter she shared with us throughout her remarkable life. We are deeply blessed to have been part of her journey.
Addie was born in Illinois on February 15, 1935, to Don and Rebecca Malott (Brown). A true romantic at heart, she eloped with the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Shaw, on May 21, 1953, in Mississippi, beginning a beautiful adventure that would span seventy-one years. They eventually settled in Colorado, where they raised their four children. Their home became a gathering place filled with laughter and love, serving as the heart of countless family memories with Addie at the center of it all.
While raising her family, Addie worked for and then retired from AT&T. In retirement, she and Jerry embraced the spirit of adventure, traveling across 49 of the 50 states in their camper with their dog Belle. On special occasions, they’d stop at McDonald’s where Belle always got her own sandwich. Their journeys took them from coast to coast, with each trip adding new stories to their life together. Two of their most treasured adventures were a trip to Bermuda, and an extended journey to Alaska, where they reveled in the beauty of the great outdoors.
Addie is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ada, Mary Ruth, and Jeanette, and her son, Gregory. Addie leaves behind her devoted husband Jerry; children Kathy Burg, Lori (Kirk) Race, Shelley (Jon) Cardenas; daughter-in-law Joani Shaw; her cherished grandchildren Gina, Candice, Tiffany, Brittany, Rebecca, Ashley, and Zachary; and her adored great-grandchildren Sloane, Rowan, Xander, Ruby, Henry, Addie, Bonnie, Aliza, and Amelia.
A celebration of Addie’s life will be held on Monday, October 7th, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO. She will be laid to rest at Broomfield County Commons Cemetery, 12801 Sheridan Blvd, Broomfield, CO. A luncheon will follow at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 100 Malley Dr., Northglenn, CO.
