Beloved husband of Elaine (nee Hunt), treasured father to Gillian and Miranda (Steven) Indrigo, and loving Gedo to Anwyn and Oscar Lillington (Tom), and Olivia and Alexander Indrigo, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 30.
Born on the Saskatchewan prairies he loved, Victor was the youngest child of Ukrainian immigrant farmers John Stecyk and Anastasia (nee Sawchyn). Victor graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BA, B.Ed and later went on to complete an MA at York University. A lively and engaging teacher, Victor began his career in Rollo, Saskatchewan. Teaching took him to Hemer, Germany, where he made lasting friendships. Returning to Canada, he taught history and was head librarian at Newtonbrook Secondary School until his retirement.
Victor loved music, from his early years performing folk music with friends to decades spent in the church choir, and lately in the community choir. He was deeply involved and active in his community, notably his leadership in the Thornhill Village Festival and The Society for the Preservation of Historic Thornhill.
His absence will be keenly felt by the congregation of Holy Trinity Church in Thornhill. His charm, easy way and sense of humour will be missed by his golfing, tennis and curling friends. A beloved brother to twelve siblings and uncle to many nieces and nephews, Victor was cherished by his family and friends near and far. He will be deeply missed by us all.
Visitation will be held at Jerrett's funeral home at 8088 Yonge St. in Thorhnill, on Wednesday July 6 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. Funeral service will be held at 1:30PM on Thursday July 7 at Holy Trinity Church, 140 Brooke St., Thornhill. Condolence messages can be left at www.jerrettvaughanchapel.ca. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to World Vision Canada.
