Sister Adua Zampese, SOS, died at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, Toronto, Ontario, on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in her 57th year of religious life with the Sisters of Service (SOS). Born in Dignano, Italy, she was the oldest of the three children of Giovanni Zampese and Rina Bisaro. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Marialuisa and Sergio. She is survived by her sister, Loredana Renata.
A seamstress, she immigrated to Canada with her brother, entering in August 1957 at Pier 21, Halifax, where the Sisters of Service had welcomed European immigrants for three decades. Sister Adua became acquainted with the Sisters of Service while living in their residence in Winnipeg, entering on September 14, 1967 and professing final vows on August 12, 1975. After graduating from Memorial University, St. John’s, NL, she achieved a childhood ambition as a primary school teacher in Goulds, NL, and St. Julien’s, NL. Remaining in Newfoundland, she assumed the position of teacher and principal of the community’s Correspondence School of Religion in Clarenville, NL. After leaving Newfoundland, Sister Adua undertook ministry in parishes, Epiphany of Our Lord, Toronto; Holy Family, Regina; Holy Family, Radville, SK and St. Anne’s, Regina.
Whether in the classroom or in parishes, Sister Adua brought energy, kindness, joy and thoughtfulness as well as sewing skills. Serving in the SOS administration, Sister Adua was elected Pastoral Director and Assistant Pastoral Director during the crucial decade of 2000.

Relatives and friends may call at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto Ontario for Visitation on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. A Prayer Vigil will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. In the Chapel at 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario
Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto.
