On Saturday October 18th 2014, Santo Matteo Guizzetti passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 76. Santo was born in Solto Collina, Bergamo, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1958. He settled in Toronto, and together with his beautiful wife Eleonora of 51 years, raised a family of three children: Daniele, Emma and Andrea. Santo was a charming, hardworking, no nonsense, first class gentleman and industry leader. He was a loving father-in-law to Maria and Marianne. Santo was also a proud grandfather to: Matthew, David, Lucas, Emma, Andrew, Alexandra, Matthew, Lauren, Cristina and David. For them, his story will serve as a source of strength and inspiration as they strive to live up to their greatest potential and achieve their dreams. Santo made the most of his opportunities to achieve great success in the contracting and real estate development industries having co-founded York Excavating and Grading in 1963 and forever leaving his legacy on many of Toronto's landmarks. Always appreciating the gift of family and friends, he balanced his strong work ethic with family and social activities like playing cards with his friends, being an active member of the Earthmovers Association of Ontario and the Club Bergamasco which kept him connected to his roots. When not working or spending time with family, he enjoyed trips to Italy with his wife.
Santo is also survived by his brothers John and Giulio Guizzetti, brother-in-law's Paolo Galletti and Tony Nubile, sister-in-law's Rosemary Galletti, Luisa and Dina Guizzetti as well as by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care at Richview Manor, Villa Colombo Adult Day Program, Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, his personal companion Giorgio Gianniotti, his personal caregivers Edwin Arceo, Virginia Guevarra and the loving and caring nurses and volunteers at Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill. A special thank you to Dr. Brian Berger his doctor of 20 years whose passion for palliative care is unparalleled.
Friends will be received on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 6- 9 pm. and Monday October 20, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paschal Baylon Roman Catholic Church (92 Steeles Avenue West, Thornhill Ontario). Private Entombment. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Hill House Hospice and/or
the Alzheimer's Society.
