It is with great sadness we announce the death of Ron on Monday, December 13th, 2021, at the age of 97. Ron passed away peacefully after more than four years at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.
Predeceased by his dear wife Jean and dear father of Bruce and Lynne Pulenzas (Chris), loved Papa of Bryan (Ashley), Amanda, Natalie and Melissa and Great Papa to Tucker and Callie. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Betty Lou and many nieces and nephews.
Ron grew up on a farm in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He served his country proudly during WWII and post-war attended the University of Saskatchewan for Civil Engineering. After graduation in 1948, he purchased a Harley Davidson motorcycle and rode from Saskatchewan to Amherst Nova Scotia. He started his first job working as an engineer on several Maritime Marshland rehabilitation projects and there, he met the love of his life Jean while working in the same office.
Ron retired from the federal government after serving more than 35 years as a senior civil servant and was an Assistant Deputy Minister for D.R.E.E. when he retired in 1979. The family moved a total of nine times during Ron’s career and they made many great friends along the way. Post-retirement, he and Jean travelled to Palm Springs, California in the winter months for more than 20 years. Ron had many hobbies and interests and remained very active during his retirement. Spending time with his family and grandchildren was always very important.
Ron had many unique talents, and he could fix just about anything and was able to keep things working well beyond their normal useful life. Repairmen were not often seen at the McIntyre household.
Ron enjoyed golf, sailing, automobiles, computers and was the family historian at numerous reunions in Canada and the USA. He was an active member of Kiwanis, his church and loved to help others. He really enjoyed music and could play multiple instruments well.
Ron lived a full and active life and throughout it, was a true role model for honesty and integrity. He will be profoundly missed by his family, many friends, and relatives.
Special thanks to all the staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre for their compassion, support and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Veterans Comfort Fund or the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice
