Paul was born to Helen and Clarence Craig on 26 April 1931 on a farm in Switzerville, Ontario. He graduated from the chemical engineering department at Ryerson, thereafter working with Fisher Scientific for the next 20 years. At age 43 he began a successful career in residential and commercial real estate. There he took his greatest pleasure in finding church properties, including Bayview Glen Church and the foundation property for 100 Huntley St.
Paul volunteered with joyful enthusiasm as a Gideon for 40 years, leading Bible studies in jails and detention centres. At 84 years of age, Paul was forced to leave his real estate career and Gideon work, due to his loss of speech.
He loved to travel with his family to Florida, Cape Cod, Hawaii, Europe, Israel, Arizona, and remote desert villages in Pakistan.
A master craftsman, Paul lavished his family with handmade gifts. He read voraciously, in particular the Bible. He was completely at home with nature, whether in their Henry Farm backyard, in the Don River ravine, or at their cottage on Little Bald Lake.
Paul will be lovingly remembered and missed by Elvi, his wife and best friend of 62 years; daughters Nancy Curry (Don), Linda Gamble (Ken); grandchildren Madeleine Craig (Michael), Jeremy Curry (Krista), Dominique Thach (Robert), Nathan Gamble, Joel Gamble; four great grandchildren; sisters Lorna Safe (Steve), Sheila Patton (George); and brother John Craig (Marilyn).
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies” (John 11:25).
Visitation will be held at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St on Fri, Nov 25 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held on Sat, Nov 26 at 11am, at Bayview Glen Church, 300 Steeles Ave. Memorial donations can be made to the Gideons International in Canada.
