Les was born in rural Manitoba and raised by his parents, Murdie & Pearl on a farm along with his siblings, Mary, Hazel, Ruth and Jim. He told stories of 'helping' his Dad by spreading the grain in the harvester at the age of seven.
They moved to Ontario, where home at 5611 gave him fond memories for life that grounded him in his senior years. We all remember huge family gatherings and exploring the house and all it's secret cubbies and traditions began for family reunions. Les felt it was time for another, so he instigated the one at Darlington Provincial Park in 2007.
Les loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker, swimmer, target shooter and hunter. The place he loved most was the cottage at Julian. It always held a special place in his heart and we were all so lucky to have shared in this.
Les grew up in the Depression and did not want to see anything go to waste. 'Save, reuse and recycle' were things he lived by.
In his final years, Les appreciated the help and friendship of his caregivers, Angie, Susan and Laurie G.
Uncle Les will always be remembered as a kind, generous, quiet and extremely intelligent man with a keen sense of dry humour.
May he rest in peace with his family.
Relatives are invited to attend a graveside service followed by a Celebration of Life gathering this Spring. Details will be forthcoming.
