I’m saddened to hear of her passing. I actually just thought of her today in passing what a great teacher she was! She was my 4th grade teacher back in 1994 along with Ms. Bandurak who I found out also passed away:( 
Just seeing their photos are almost like a memory frozen in time. I remember Ms.Volk with her keychain of keys:) Always on the run to help someone:). I’m all grown now and married 20 years. I have fond memories of that school from the 90s. Went there from JK to Grade 5. Teachers like her made a lasting impression, young and soaking up everything we were taught. To the indoor sandboxes in JK to the open area library. She was a jem and will be missed. My condolences to her family and friends <3

Ms. Volk was my grade 5 teacher in Shoreham Public School and she left such a powerful impact on me!!! I speak about her influence to this day and I will always cherish the sweet memories I have of her. I am so devastated I was unable to say goodbye to her one last time but just knowing I can share this memory puts my heart at ease. I was a very talkative little girl and Ms. Volk taught me how to speak in a way that I am also educating instead of just talking to talk. I was a smart child as well but my chatty habits would stop me from getting the accolades I deserved… my first time being on the Future Aces (something like the honour roll) was when Ms. Volk was my teacher! And I remember that day specifically, her and her fun key chain with all her things jingling on it came and hugged me to give me the good news and said “do you see what you can do if you just put your all into it?”. She was the first teacher that made me realize it’s not about what you know it’s about how you teach others what you know. I will always remember her and I am forever grateful to her endless energy I’ll always feel with me. 

Ms Volk was my grade 3 teacher.  She always believed in me and always pushed me to my best.  She was the first teacher that believed in me . I didn’t realized that she’d passed and I’m heart broken to find out 3 years later. She always told me to believe in myself . Ms. Volk I will never forget you!! You are one of the greatest teachers I know!! 

I was a student for ms. volk throughout my elementary years at shoreham public school, she was a big inspiration for me in my life and in my younger years. I LOVED her as a teacher so much. I still think about her till this day and what she has told me in the past, I am 23 years old now. She left a BIG impact in my life and I LOVE her for that. miss you much. Me and my brother were both students of her and we were both inspired by her.

I am so deeply saddened at the news of Jo's passing. Jo was a one of a kind spirit, who charmed everyone who met her. She was devoted to teaching, to her students ,as well as her colleagues. I had the privilege of teaching with Jo for 14 years at Shoreham and I cannot imagine what the Shoreham community will do without her. My deepest sympathies to David and family

Jo was an absolute jem.  She touched many lives and will be truly missed.  Rest in peace, Jo.

I am so very sorry (and upset) to hear of Jo's passing and would like to express my sincere condolences to her family and friends. I will always fondly remember teaching alongside Jo as part of the grade 4 Team at Shoreham p.s. Jo was on the piano during our grade 4 music practices and helped me fumble through my recorder lessons with our students. I could always count on Jo, our go-to computer expert, to help me muddle through any issues with FileMaker Pro during report card season. She was very generous with her time and if she didn't have the answers to a question right away, she would write it on her hand. I always wondered how she managed to scrub off that ink in time for the next day. I can still picture her hair flying by me in a rush to do something for somebody. She will surely be missed by the Shoreham community. Thanks Jo.

Jo was my first and oldest friend and even though I did not see her as much in later years, I still saw her as my best friend. One in that first tier of the closest 3 or 4 friends - and she was my #1. I called her my 'old shoe', my comfortable shoes that I would wear for years - like a pair of Birkenstocks. 
We shared our adolescence and 20s together - almost daily contact at times. Our first lovers and boyfriends... she so private yet very daring. 
She was determined and stubborn but always ...so private -I often had to implore her to open up - and found that asking general questions, philosophical questions, about music and literature was where she would come out of that introverted shyness and open up. Through her artwork and the artwork of others. 
She frustrated me when I tried to take her picture, the camera came out and she was gone from the room.
She gave me the most joy with she brought gifts - her creativity, wit and generosity shone then. 
She was quirky, witty and kind. She was creative.
We would often talk about life and death, the larger issues - and I always thought we would share our aging, with our mutual reflections of life, then - in the years ahead.  The thought that I will not have that - still befuddles me. 

I still cant believe that you Jo are gone. This wasn't supposed to happen. Not now, not like this. 
But, I am so so so happy that you left this life feeling loved, missed, cherished. That is the very least I can appreciate now, in this grief of a great friend lost. 
Lead the way my friend, until we meet again and catch up. I want my old shoes back.

And...
David, she was devoted to you. Loyal and steadfast. You were her match. My upmost condolences to you. Thank you for the years you two shared.

I am so sorry for your loss. Jo was an amazing teacher. I worked with Jo for 25 years at Shoreham P.S. She was so creative and inspired so many students and teachers. Jo gave so much of herself and was talented in so many ways. She had high expectations for her students and expected teachers to give their best as well. I miss Jo and cannot believe she is gone. She has left a legacy at Shoreham. I am a better person because I had the good fortune of meeting Jo and working with her for so many years.
