In 1957 the Govan family emigrated to Canada and landed in Halifax. Shortly after their arrival in Canada, the Govan family welcomed a new son, Alistair Govan into the family.
The Govan family moved and settled in Toronto where Ian would inherit his father’s passion for golf and hockey. Ian would later go on to compete professionally at higher levels in golf and hockey. John, David and Alistair Govan grew up and lived in Willowdale.
Ian attended Northview Heights Collegiate. He would later go on to studied radio broadcasting at Humber College but eventually began his career in the restaurant management business where he would work for the majority of his adult life.
Ian married Melody Carruthers in 1985 and lovingly raised five children, Andrew, Christopher, Ashton, Chantelle and Shaylynne.
Ian went on to see his children turn into wonderful and caring men and women through the love and compassion he bestowed unto them. Some would go on to start families of their own and Ian was able to spend many loving moments with his grandchildren.
Ian passed away peacefully on August 27, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a long fight with heart disease.
He will be dearly missed by his mother, Janet/Netta, his brother David and sister in-law Dianne, his children, grandchildren, his many brothers and sisters -in-law as well as numerous extended family and close friends. He truly was a great father, son, husband and friend. A man who embodied honour, integrity and compassion.
