I worked for Fred for close to 13 years at Scotiabank during the 1980's and 1990's, at which time he was involved in managing international and investment banking risk, including that of the evolving global derivative products market.



	I have a soft place in my heart for Fred, who was a good mentor, and a man of integrity. We used to have interesting conversations about our alma mater, the University of Windsor (Assumption University), and the Basilian Fathers who taught there.



	I am sorry to hear of Fred's passing, and remember him fondly.  May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to you Lorraine and all of your family on Fred's passing.You may not remember me but I worked for Fred in the Bank's investment dept. many years ago.You might recall me going with Fred after work in the evenings to hit golf balls and then to the local pub for a few draft afterwards. Fred was one of the nicest, most considerate people I have ever met and I share in your loss.

Never did I know anyone who loved baseball more than Dad.  He never missed watching game and never gave up hope for another world series. Every weekend driving home from the cottage we had to listen to baseball on 590 The Fan.  Somehow baseball on the radio in the chuck wagon on the 400 was not that entertaining for 5 kids but we perservered. Seeing baseball will forever remind me of Dad.

I remember skipping school to go to the last blue jay ' s home opener at exhibition stadium.  my mom was mad at me but uncle Fred told her not to make a big deal of it...I always saw uncle Fred as a very strong and determined person.  He will be missed but I am glad he is now at peace.

if it isn't already there, written large and with appropriate flourishes, then the story of Freddie's first faltering steps into the world of big business deserves a prominent place in the Goddard Family Archives.



	Had to be the early '50s. There was an usher's summer job going at the Loew's Uptown at Yonge and Bloor. Young Mr. Goddard could use the cash for going back to St. Michael's College that September.



	Scrubbed, jet black hair slicked down and arrow parted, wearing a freshly laundered shirt -- this is how he told me the story a few years later -- he headed for the door of the home at 426 Huron Street. Didn't quite make it, though. Grandma (Jennifer) Boland, wanted to know where he was going.



	Summer job. Wish me luck, Gran. Be back in an hour or two.



	"You're not leaving this house looking like that." Grandma Boland had a way of putting things that brooked no argument.



	She had been making her feelings known, always clearly, since the turn of the century while raising her own three children (Rita, Fred's mom, sons John and Fred) and caring for her Irish-born husband Michael.



	If young Fred was looking for work, went a grandmother's message, then a suit, white shirt and a tie were in order. No arguments. He did as he was told, and the way he related it all those years later, without a shred of resentment.



	Half an hour later, the ten-block walk done, Freddie pushed open the doors to the Loew"s lobby and... HIS HEART SANK. The place was packed wall to wall with job-seekers from all accross Toronto. Not only that, there was a stern-faced manager at the top of the stairway who could have frozen Scrooge in his counting house..



	He looked at Freddie. Freddie looked back at him.



	"All the rest of you can go," shouted Freddie's new boss. "This young man was the only on serious enough to dress for the job."



	True story.



	P.S.In all the years I knew him, and I admit I didn't know him well enough or long enough, I never saw him when he didn't look (glowing compliment warning) sharp.



	P.P.S. The movie, I believe, was The Student Prince and it was held over for eight weeks. Imagine. Listening to hour upon hour, day after day, of Mario Lanza for eight weeks. Guess what. Freddie said it introduced him to the whole new world of opera. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. That was Fred Goddard.
