It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frank (Francis) Flanagan, on Sunday January 31, 2016, aged 84 years, after a long difficult battle with Alzheimer Disease. Born in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland November 19, 1931, to the late William Joseph Flanagan MRCVS and May Flanagan (nee Murray). Frank immigrated to Canada in 1954 and spent most of his working career in the Bahamas and Cayman Islands where he was a respected and dedicated banker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 plus years, Sally (nee Ridgley), his daughter, Pauline (Sheldon Bonaparte), his son William (Carrie Rands), his two granddaughters Olivia and Abby and Anthony Lawson and family of the Cayman Islands. He also leaves behind brothers Billy, Declan, Joseph and Tom and sister Helen Keane and many nieces and nephews all of Ireland. He was predeceased by his sister Megan McDonagh also of Ireland.
Frank was an avid and accomplished golfer and bridge player but most of all he loved his Irish heritage and all things Irish. He was a faithful and loving husband and father who brought much happiness and laughter to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Many thanks for his dedicated care to his caregivers especially his friend Jonathen Fitzpatrick of Florida, Dr. Margaret Grunebaum, the team at St. Michael’s Hospital, Memory and Company and Dementia Support.
Friends may call on Saturday February 6 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the R. S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday February 8 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd (21 Simonston Blvd). Cremation to follow. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of York Region or Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre (Oshawa).
