Doris Benton

Our much beloved Mutti, Omi and Uromi passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 28th, 2017.

Dori was the adored and only daughter to the late Maria and Max Eckert, and was the cherished wife of Jim Benton who passed away just one year ago.

Theirs was a true love story: the dashing young Canadian pilot meeting the beautiful young German “Fraulein” in post WWII Germany. Out of their union at first came Michael born in Germany, and eleven years later, Perry, born in Toronto.

Dori was always the “heart and soul” of the family and as the years went by her family grew to include 5 Grandchildren; David, Marla, Nicole, Christopher, and Marlise.

Later it continued to grow with Janet (spouse of Michael), Heather (wife of David), Eric (husband of Marla), which in turn led to three wonderful Great Grandchildren; Lily and Cedar (David & Heather) and Juniper (Marla & Eric).

For all of these family members, Dori was a constant beacon of unconditional love, support and understanding. Similarly for her many long-time friends she was a pillar of strength and a devoted friend. For all of us her passing is a monumental loss.

Dori was a true inspiration to all of us; no matter what happened in life she always had a smile and carried herself with class; her never ending zest for life and her positive spirit was there until the end. Dori will be forever remembered by all of us and her warm spirit will stay with us forever. While she will be truly missed, we know that she is now in a happy place, reunited and forever dancing with her Darling Jim.

A Celebration of Life for Dori will be held on Saturday, March 4th, 2017, at 1:00pm at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles, Toronto).
