Cathy was born in Oakville, Ontario on June 27, 1966. She was diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome as a child. Despite the challenges associated with her diagnosis, Cathy lived a rich life filled with love. She graduated from Bickford Park High School, winning an award for science and recognition in drama.
As a young person, Cathy travelled with her parents to Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Fiji — truly the trip of a lifetime.
Cathy had a heart for children and delighted in working with them wherever possible. After high school, she attended Mothercraft and was certified as an Early Childhood Education Assistant.
Cathy was a woman of great faith and demonstrated this in the love that she showed to others. She was known for giving bear hugs to any that needed them. Cathy was generous to a fault and took great pleasure in giving gifts “just because”.
A friend to many, she was deeply devoted to her church family at Aurora Cornerstone, taking part in weekly services, women’s Bible study, and volunteering.
Cathy was also very fond of animals, especially cats. She loved to spoil her cat Friskie with toys, treats, and cuddles and regularly doted on him. On recent walks to Mill Pond Park, she took great joy in watching the ducklings and goslings parade down the streets.
She was incredibly creative. Cathy loved art and could often be found drawing or colouring pictures to give to her family. She loved music and singing. Cathy was also a gifted writer; her poems touched the hearts of all who were blessed to read or listen to them.
While Cathy was still relatively new to her long term care home, she made friends quickly with residents and staff. She could always be counted on for a game or puzzle and would even entertain the grandkids of other residents while parents visited.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mackenzie Health Long Term Care and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital for their dedication and compassionate care.
