Passed away after a short illness, on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Christie Gardens in Toronto at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Norma Inez Rafuse. Loving father of Joanne, Karen (deceased), Judy (Monty), and Carrie (Elden), grandfather of Sarah, and brother of Barbara (Bob). Art will be sadly missed by all of his family and many friends.
Raised in the Kitchener/Waterloo area and graduated from The University of Western Ontario and Huron College. He served as an Anglican priest in parishes in Paisley-Pinkerton-Cargill, Glanworth, London, Windsor, and Toronto. His last parish was St. Michael and All Angels. He was elected Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of Toronto in 1981. Upon retirement he served as Chancellor of Renison College. His ministry included strong ties with Nova Scotian, West Indian and Chinese congregations. During the last three years of his life he made many friendships at Christie Gardens.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church (611 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, ON, M6C 1A3). A celebration of Art's life will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church. Interment of Art's ashes will take place on Friday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, Glanworth, Ontario (from Toronto, travel west along Hwy. 401, take the Wellington Rd. south exit, turn right onto Glanworth Dr., follow a short way, church will be on the right). Instead of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to St. Michael and All Angels Day Care Centre, of which he was a co-founder.
