January 10, 1939 to Howard Gammons Sr. and Ethel Leonard Gammons.
She graduated from Hasty High School in 1957 and went on to graduate from
Ashemore Business College. She worked at Thomasville Furniture Industries where she
met her husband of 61 years, Hubert. After leaving TFI, she became an Office Manager
for H&R Block. Eventually, she went on to open her own tax preparation service and
met the needs of over 500 customers annually.
Betty was a member of Fairmont Park Baptist Church for many years where she served
as a Sunday School teacher and youth leader. She was also a member of Trinity Baptist
Church. When she wasn’t working or volunteering for the church, Betty spent her time
doing things, she loved the most: gardening, cooking, and most importantly, being a
mother, and not just to her children, but all of the children in the neighborhood.
Betty is survived by her husband, Hubert Leon Hill, of the home; four children, Duane
Hill of Thomasville, Melissa Xavier (Brian) of Idaho, Kevin Hill of Trinity, and Steven
Hill (Teresa) of Trinity; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Derrick, Caleb, Annie, Anna,
Adam, Alston, and Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Braxton; one sister,
Phyllis G. Stanley of Thomasville; three brothers, Howard Gammons Jr. (Mary Ann) of
Thomasville, Wayne Gammons (Karen) of Denton, Bobby Gammons (Pat Meredith) of
Thomasville; and many special nieces and nephews whom she always cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ethel Gammons.
The family will greet friends from 1-1:45 pm on Friday at Sechrest-Davis Funerals &
Cremations of Thomasville, 18 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC 27360.
A graveside service officiated by Charlie Patrick will be held at Holly Hill Memorial
Park, 401 W. Holly Hill Road, Thomasville, NC 27360 on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 2:00
pm.
