Richard Allen "Al Pal" Hanner, age 43, of Thomasville, NC, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Guilford Co., NC, on October 30, 1980, a son of Steven Franklin Hanner and the late Tamara Dawn Price Hanner.
Allen attended East Davidson High School, where he wrestled, played football, and ran track. He graduated from Davidson County Community College in 2002. After graduation, he began his career in law enforcement at the Thomasville Police Department, where he served for seven years. Allen continued his law enforcement career at the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, where he served for 10 more years until his retirement due to Huntington's Disease. He truly loved working as a law enforcement officer.
Allen was a devoted Christian and served as a Deacon at Southgate Baptist for several years. He loved to fish and spend every free moment on the lake. The absolute loves of his life were his wife, his children, and the Carolina Tarheels. He always found humor in everything and loved to make everyone laugh.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 22 years, Elaine Hanner; son, Richard Austin Hanner; daughter, Carlie Grace Hanner; father, Steve Hanner; brother, Vance Hanner (Cheryl); brother-in-law, Terry Edwards (Taylor); nieces, Rachel "Rach H" Hanner, Lauren "Cookie" Hanner, and Emery "Creechter" Edwards; and grandmother, Pat Price.
In addition to his mother, Allen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Price, Zeb Hanner, and Dorothy Hanner.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Rich Fork Church, 3993 Old US Hwy 29, Thomasville, NC 27360 with Chuck Garner, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11-1 prior to the service. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.
