Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Wanda Jean Furnatter Miles passed away peacefully at her home in Magnolia, Texas, on Friday, June 21, 2024. Full of love and laughter, Wanda touched the lives of all who knew her.
Wanda, the youngest of three daughters, was born on April 21, 1934, in Nashville Arkansas, to James “Edward” Furnatter and Charlotte “Marie” Nelson Furnatter. Wanda married Carl W. Miles in Hot Springs, Arkansas on April 9, 1951. They resided in Oceanside, California while Carl was in the Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton, and then settled in Odessa, Texas.
Together, Carl and Wanda started and ran Carl Miles Food Service for 55 years, providing goods to most area restaurants and grocery stores. Through the years, they touched many lives with their generosity and community support, from livestock shows to the Permian High School Booster Club. After retirement in 2007, Carl and Wanda moved to Magnolia, Texas. The couple celebrated 56 years of marriage before Carl’s passing.
Wanda loved to travel. She toured most of the United States including Alaska, and traveled abroad to Germany, Austria, and Italy. Wanda also loved cruising with her large family, visiting many Caribbean Islands. Wanda loved flowers and gardening and spending time at her Colorado City Lakehouse, where she nurtured her 10-acre garden and enjoyed precious family time. Wanda loved football and was a big supporter of Permian High School sports. She was a proud Season Ticket holder for many years. Wanda never missed a game when her nephew, Michael Troglin, was playing.
Wanda was a loving caregiver. She helped take care of her grandmother, Hattie Nelson who lived to the age of 98. She also cared for her mother, Marie Furnatter who lived to the age of 102. But her greatest joy was caring for the grandbabies. Wanda always said her blood pressure would drop when she was rocking a baby. Wanda’s message to the world was, “Don’t waste your years. Live every day.” And she certainly did that!
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Miles, her parents James and Marie Furnatter, her sisters Sylvia Harrison and Hazel Looney, and her sons Carl Dennis Miles and Dr. Stephen Miles.
Wanda is survived by daughter, Kathy Crews and husband, Larry; son Carl David Miles and wife, Toni; daughter-in-law Suzan Miles; Grandchildren: Cody Phillips and wife Kate; Clayton Phillips and wife Courtney; Kira Bloomer and husband L.C.; Carl Brody Miles and wife Rachel; Brittany Kankel and husband Brandon; and Dustin Miles.
