Bob was born September 17, 1926 in Chickasha, OK to Alvin and Olga Nelson Sampson. After working on the farm and attending high school in Chickasha, Bob joined the Navy in 1945. After his service during WWII he attended college, graduating from Oklahoma University in 1950 with a degree in Geological Engineering. Bob was employed by Cities Service Company, was transferred to Billings, Montana where he married Georgia Rae “Billee” Claxton in 1953. Bob and Billee had two sons, Gregory Kim Sampson, and Mark Alan Sampson. The family transferred many times during Bob’s career and enjoyed the various US locations in which they lived. Following his distinguished career, Bob continued to work several years with Houston based exploration and production companies. He retired in the mid 1990’s.
Most recently Bob was active with volunteer work, bowling, golfing and several bridge groups. He was a member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Billee Sampson, sister Helen Long and brother Bernie Sampson. Bob is survived by his sons, Greg and his wife Wendy and granddaughter Regan; Mark and his wife Elda and sons Ryan and Ben; his brother Alvin and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service is to be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 3pm at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
