In this season of gratitude and peace, we give great thanks for the life of Lois Jean “Tweet” (LaBonne) Carlson who peacefully went home to God on her favorite day of the week, Sunday; November 19th, 2023.
Best described as kind and sweet, Lois took great joy in the small gifts of everyday life and delighted in the beauty of the world. She would marvel at a blooming Christmas cactus, a beautiful Orchid, great works of art, uplifting hymns, majestic snow covered mountains, and sandy beaches overlooking the ocean. As she aged, she took solace in time at home with a good book, a cup of tea and visits with loved ones—on the phone or sitting together.
A lifelong, faithful Catholic, she became a Third Order Carmelite in her eighties. Lois lived her faith and never missed an opportunity to say a caring and loving word. Her phone calls and letters always ended with “God Bless.” She deeply loved the liturgical seasons of Christmas, Lent and Easter and was known to keep poinsettias and lilies for months after these holidays. Lois had the unique ability to see the sunnyside of life and the good in everyone. During hardships, she leaned on her faith by practicing forgiveness, gratitude and contentment. Affectionately known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Grandma, Grandma Lois, and Grandma GG she took great care to find each the perfect gift which was accompanied by a note filled with loving sentiments. She found joy in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and relished in sharing their news with others.
Lois was born on December 4,1932 in Anoka, Minnesota and was the only child of Mabel and Amil LaBonne. She attended The College of Saint Benedict for women in St. Joseph, Minnesota and was married to her husband, Ken, for fifty-six years until his death in 2008. Together they raised seven children as Ken’s job moved the family from Anoka, Minnesota to Dallas,Texas and finally to Oak Ridge and The Woodlands; where she lived for the past forty-eight years. Lois was a founding member of St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in The Woodlands where she volunteered and developed lifelong friendships through the shared love of Christ.
Lois is survived by her children: Stephen Carlson, Christine Carlson, Michael Carlson, James Carlson, Lizzie (Bubba) Christ, Mary Carlson and Eric (Dana) Carlson; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and her four dearly cherished half-siblings; Joanne (Gary) Kieffer Davis, Barb (Dave) Hirschfeld, Deb (Orville) Treichel, and Jeffery (Pam Webster) Hymanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her grandson, Roger Christ, Jr.
A mass in honor of Lois’ life will be held on February 24th at 10AM at Sts. Simon and Jude.
As we enter the season of Advent, please remember Lois in the beauty of a vibrant poinsettia, the passing of a kindhearted word to others, and by sharing the small joys of life.
