Laura was born and raised in Palestine, Texas. She was musically inclined as a child and played the piano and organ at the Presbyterian Church in Palestine. She met Walter Ferguson in Palestine and married him in November of 1953, after she graduated from high school. She and Walter had four children: Lorraine, Mac, Georgi, and Jerrilyn. They moved their family to Houston, and Walter worked in the retail grocery industry as a vice president for Rice Foods. Laura and Walter were married for 42 years until Walter's passing in August of 1996.
On January 1, 1998, Laura married Hardy Hilbun. Soon after their marriage, Laura and Hardy moved to Richards, Texas, to try their hand at ranching. They enjoyed their life on the ranch, raising cattle and entertaining family on each and every holiday. Hardy became ill and passed away in December of 2019 at the age of 94. Immediately following Hardy's death, Laura moved into Jerrilyn and Mark's house in Spring so that they could care for her. Laura lived with Jerrilyn and Mark until her passing on March 28, 2024.
Laura enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, and telling stories. As a mother, she was a leader in the Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts. She designed and made dance costumes for her daughters as well as for other children who could not afford to buy their own costumes. She was very active as a mother and was very involved in all of her children's extracurricular activities.
As a grandmother of 5 grandchildren, she babysat and watched each of her grandchildren until they went to preschool. She truly enjoyed attending dance recitals, sporting events, and martial arts tournaments to support and watch her grandchildren.
Laura was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed several trips to Memphis over the last few years to visit her grandson Jared and his wife, Susanna. Laura was able to tour Graceland, and on another occasion, she attended Jared's "White Coat" ceremony at the Graceland Convention Center. She loved Graceland!!
Laura is survived by her four children, Lorraine Ferguson-Williams, Mac Ferguson (Michelle), Georgi Blanchard, and Jerrilyn Hatcher (Mark); her grandchildren Wesley Ferguson, Stephanie Williams, Samantha Blanchard, and Jared Hatcher (Susanna); her great granddaughter Kinsleigh Ferguson.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Eloise Barnes Nall, her first husband Walter M. Ferguson, her second husband Hardy Hilbun, and grandson Dustin Ferguson.
Laura was a loving person and enjoyed helping others. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Services will be held at Forest Park Cemetery, 18000 I-45, The Woodlands, Texas 77384 on April 5, 2024 at 2:30pm.
